ABOUT THE PERSILAT ORGANIZATION

    PERSILAT is an abbreviation of Persekutuan Pencak Silat Antarbangsa, the World Pencak Silat Federation. PERSILAT was founded on March 11, 1980 for an indefinite period by the Founding Members from the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darrusalam. It was founded for the purposes of 1) discovering, maintaining, preserving, developing and promoting Pencak Silat and its values throughout the world as a highly valued Nusantara cultural heritage which has the aspects of mental/spiritual, self defense, art and sport united into one, 2) building, developing, uniting and harmonizing various activities among Pencak Silat organizations in various countries, and 3) to make Pencak Silat as a means to build an intact personality dedicated to God, with chivalry, honesty, modesty, fairness and a noble character. Also to be responsible in order to materialize brotherhood, peace, unity and friendship among nations as well as the dynamic, fair, civilized and eternity of World Peace.
PERSILAT is about showing the ability and necessity of valuing one another despite any differences and to unite peaceful people under its umbrella to promote competition and camaraderie.
On May 14, 2005 Merpati Putih USA was invited to become the 1st ever American Affiliated Member of PERSILAT by bapak Eddy Nalapraya, President of PERSILAT. MP USA has been given the opportunity to gather the various Perguruan Pencak Silat (Pencak Silat Organizations) in North and South America to join PERSILAT, promote brotherhood and friendship among ALL Silat Systems and attend PERSILAT-sanctioned competitions.
All Pendekar and Pelatih are urged to contact Merpati Putih USA to get more information on how they and their students can join PERSILAT. The PERSILAT Constitution and Competition Regulations are available online in a significantly abridged version on the MP USA Website (.pdf format), or comprehensive booklets can be ordered through the MP USA eStore (recommended for Instructors and School Owners). Together, PERSILAT Members can help make Pencak Silat as renowned, as popular, as respected and as influential in millions of people’s lives as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Kung Fu and Jiu Jitsu are.
